Northampton Crown Court heard how, on 12 September 2014, a 26-year-old employee lost most of his left hand as he cleared a blockage on a steel tube manufacturing line where there was unsuitable guarding.
In a separate accident, a 52-year-old team leader's left hand was caught in an inadequately guarded machine during refresher training.
The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) investigated and found the company did not fit appropriate guards and manage the risks arising from dangerous parts of machinery.
Tata Steel had pleaded guilty at a previous hearing to two counts of breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act. It must now pay a £1.98m fine plus costs of £22,500.
