Government to toughen fire regulation in light of Hackitt review recommendations

The government has agreed to introduce a new regulatory framework to improve fire safety in high-rise residential tower blocks in response to Dame Judith Hackitt’s independent review of regulation following the Grenfell Tower fire in June 2017.

An asbestos surveying firm in Northern Ireland has been fined £7,500 after it allowed the refurbishment of a retail outlet to proceed before it had received the results of an asbestos analysis. The sample was shown to have asbestos present.
