Hereford Magistrates' Court heard how the TRP Polymer Solutions employee developed the condition after he was exposed to sensitising ingredients in rubber compounds.
The Health and Safety Executive's (HSE) investigation found that the company did not assess and manage the risks of products and its health and safety adviser failed to understand the underlying issues sufficiently for the company to discharge its responsibilities.
TRP Polymer Solutions, which makes moulded seals using materials including butyl, nitrile and silicone as well as natural rubber, pleaded guilty to breaching Section 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act and Regulations 6 (assessment of the risk to health created by work involving hazardous substances) and 11 (health surveillance) of the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health Regulations 2002 (COSHH). It was fined £40,000 and ordered to pay costs of £6,529.
