Basildon Magistrates' Court heard last week that the HSE was forced to issue the firm with four prohibition notices and three improvement notices after a visit to its St John's Way site in Corringham, Essex in 2016 where it is the principal contractor for the development of a public house and 24 flats.
Acting on the complaints, the HSE carried out three inspections and each time identified a number of breaches, which included dangerous electrical systems, unsafe work at height, and no fire detection alarm. The firm also failed to provide firefighting equipment, though workers were sleeping on the site.
Malik Contractors and Engineers of Neasden Goods Depot, Neasden pleaded guilty to an offence under reg 13(1) of the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015. It was fined £52,000 and ordered to pay £4,415 in costs.
