Businesses who are registered with the service can use the noticeboard function to advertise their projects, for which OSCHR consultants would then register their interest. Details of the job, such as the role description, location, timeframes and contact details, can be listed.
The noticeboard is also available to OSHCR consultants who need to recruit fellow health and safety professionals for projects.
The register was established in 2011 by the Health and Safety Executive and major safety bodies in response to criticism by Lord Young in his report for the government on OSH regulation that anyone could set themselves up as a safety consultant. OSHCR registrants must be chartered members of IOSH or hold equivalent level membership of one of the other OSH bodies and commit themselves to continuous professional development.
Speaking to IOSH Magazine before she left her post as chair of the HSE in April, Dame Judith Hackitt said OSHCR needed a "radical rethink" because it does not eliminate poor general OSH consultants from its register.
"The good ones listen to what their customers want and provide proportionate solutions. The not-so-good ones impose and sell through fear," she said, questioning the need for generalist consultants.
