Opportunity knocks

We are introducing a great opportunity to the world of OSH this November. Opportunity starts here is a new IOSH initiative that promises to transform the profession by revitalising its members on their professional journeys.

Built around a new and enhanced Blueprint tool, it puts OSH professionals in touch with an amazing new suite of continuing professional development (CPD) resources. These cover a huge range of topics, all mapped to the IOSH competency framework, and present its users with the exciting prospect of making measurable progress in their professional development.

This features a self-assessment tool that enables users to assess themselves against the framework and create their own personal development plan, tracking progress against their CPD record.

It all builds on the foundations of those membership benefits already provided by IOSH, such as the IOSH Career Hub, IOSH Mentoring platform, CPD courses and the IOSH Future Leaders Community. Online resources for all these initiatives can be found on the IOSH website.

Blueprint brings a superb library of new resources to those on their learning and development journeys. Offering rich content written by IOSH’s safety and health experts and partner organisations, these resources explore key topics at all four levels of the framework. Altogether, they amount to nearly 430 hours of CPD.

And look out for our introduction of a new membership grades structure next year. This will be linked to the competency framework and the tools provided by the new and improved Blueprint. The structure will be easy to understand and will provide clear routes for progression. Members will be able to design a personalised journey to upgrade membership, so that grades reflect levels of professional competence.

Opportunity starts here introduces IOSH’s ethical practice in OSH e-learning and assessment. This will raise standards for the profession as a whole, but also increase the respect in which individual members are held. Although mandatory for Chartered Members and Chartered Fellows, IOSH recommends all members undertake this training. It’s so important OSH is underpinned by strong ethical practice.

So a really exciting set of possibilities is opening for our members and for the profession. I urge OSH professionals to renew their skills when Blueprint launches in November. By doing so,
you could help reshape OSH.
