Mordaunt has been appointed as minister of state for disabled people, work and health in the cabinet reshuffle by Theresa May, after she succeeded David Cameron as prime minister on 14 July.
Mordaunt is MP for Portsmouth North and was formerly minister of state for the armed forces. In her new role at the Department for Work and Pensions, she is responsible for the Health and Safety Executive as well as for disability issues. She replaces Parliamentary Under-secretary of State for Disabled People Justin Tomlinson, who held the role for two years. Tomlinson left the government in the reshuffle.
"I will do all I can to improve support for people with disabilities and health conditions, help more people into work and ensure they have every opportunity to thrive," Mordaunt said.
