The event, Occupational Safety and Health: Striving for Happy and Healthy European Workplaces, was organised by the Public Policy Exchange.
It explored Europe-wide issues around OSH, including the European Union's Strategic Framework on Health and Safety at Work 2014-20, the socio-economics of OSH and building a prevention culture in workplaces.
It was held to look into ways of ensuring that working environments across Europe are safe and healthy, minimising work-related injury and illness, managing psychosocial risk and highlighting the importance of multi-disciplinary working.
As well as promoting IOSH's work, Bev and Richard's visit was a valuable opportunity to explore trends, current thinking and future issues and to engage with professionals, policy-makers and representatives from industry.
It provided IOSH with the chance to meet with some key OSH figures within Europe. These included: Stefan Olsson, Director of Employment and Social Legislation, Social Dialogue, DG Employment, Social Affairs and Inclusion for the European Commission; Professor Stephen Bevan, Head of HR Research Development at the Institute for Employment Studies; Professor Lode Godderis, of the Centre for Environment and Health at the University of Leuven in Belgium and Kris De Meester of BusinessEurope.
Following the event, held on Thursday 23 February, Bev said: "The world of work is constantly changing. This seminar brought together key figures from across the health and safety field in Europe to explore new ways of ensuring that employees are kept safe and well.
"It gave us another opportunity to strengthen IOSH's links with Europe and to forge some new partnerships in the continued drive to make all workplaces safe and healthy."
