IOSH announces Council election results

Council represents IOSH members, holding the Board of Trustees accountable for its performance against key responsibilities on their behalf. It also debates key strategic, professional and policy issues.

In order of election, the Council members are:

A total of 3,382 votes were cast in the election, a turnout of 8.3%.

IOSH would like to thank all members who voted or put themselves forward for election, and congratulates the candidates who have been elected.

 Balkan countries show support for No Time to Lose

The bodies that are promoting improvements to working conditions in Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Montenegro have all pledged their support to the No Time to Lose campaign, which is being run by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).Frosina Gjino, executive director of the Albanian Occupational Safety and Health Center (AOSHC), said that the organisation believes that raising awareness of the risk of exposure to carcinogens at work will save lives all over the world.

 IOSH urges UK Government to lead anti-slavery ‘race to the top’

The global body has welcomed a renewed commitment to deal with the issue from UK Prime Minister Theresa May.To mark the first anniversary of the Modern Slavery Act 2015 – which Mrs May introduced while serving as Home Secretary – she said a new UK cabinet taskforce would tackle the “sickening and inhuman crimes”, and that £33 million from the UK aid budget would go towards funding initiatives overseas.

 Rail crossing safety focus for IOSH event

More than half of all near-misses between trains and vehicles at level crossings in Britain occur at user-worked crossings (UWCs) - where the user has to open and shut a gate, or lift a barrier themselves, in order to cross rail track.IOSH Rural Industries and Railway Groups are working together to raise awareness of the issue through a free event which includes a live demonstration of good practice around UWCs and other rail level-crossings.

 Action plan needed to tackle rise in attacks on prison officers - IOSH

Friday 29th July 2016
There was a record high 5,423 assaults on prison staff, up 40 per cent from 3,887 in the previous year, according to Ministry of Justice figures published on July 28 2016. This equates to a rate of 63 assault-on-staff incidents per 1,000 prisoners, up from 46 in the previous year.
