Over the next 12 months, representatives from the sector's major clients, contractors and supply chain will develop an action plan, which will include standardised measures to assess current performance and demonstrate improvement from April 2020, when the plan is launched, to the 2025 target date, which is when the industry-wide initiative plans to meet its goal of eliminating all injuries and illnesses.
The ICG, which includes EDF Energy, the Environment Agency, Heathrow, Highways England, HS2, National Grid, Sellafield, Tideway and Transport for London has identified seven significant areas of risk: people and plant; mental health; striking buried services; lifting operations; heavy goods vehicles operations; hand-arm vibration related disease; and public safety.
Sector suppliers have agreed to support the industry-wide initiative while other clients and suppliers have been invited to sign up through the Civil Engineering Contractors Association.
