Project managers of the university project were impressed with Bull after visiting Shell offices in Holland where the company's alarm system was installed earlier this year. Bull has now been contracted to supply its renowned Cygnus alarm systems to protect one of the buildings at the university which is home to almost 35,000 staff and students.
The Student Centre, which is opposite the Leiden University, Campus The Hague, will provide sports, recreational and support services for students once complete.
The upper two floors of the building are currently in use by other tenants, therefore the building has to remain safe at all times during the renovation. In addition, a tram line runs through the ground floor making the alarm system critical to protect the site during the refurbishment and ensure that the tram network is not disrupted in the event of a fire.
Sixteen alarm units have been installed on site including the Cygnus Heat Detector and Responder Stations which offer a complete first aid centre for when an emergency can't be reported immediately and helps to maintain adequate first aid equipment on site ensuring health and safety is not compromised.
Bradley Markham, Director at Bull Products, says: "We are delighted to be working with the University of Leiden to protect the new Student Centre site -- a project which continues to build our reputation in Europe."

Paul says, “Organisations’ reported near-misses have more than doubled, if not trebled, after my visit”.So, why the increase? It is easy to answer that with one word: “AWARENESS”. Watch a video demo The unique foldable design allows for 40 units per pallet to be stacked safely on a pallet – double the amount compared to most traditional separation barriers which traditionally only fit 20. This makes shipping, transporting and storing the units so much easier and cost-efficient making great saving for the contractor as you can transport up to 8 fully stacked pallets on a flatbed van. This equates to 320 units or 320 metres per vehicle.
The PowerCap® Infinity® has been designed by JSP’s research and development team who were inspired by feedback received from people about the compatibility issue of having to wear respiratory, head, eye and hearing protection but also the weight, heat and restriction of movement when wearing a waist mounted PAPR filter unit. Through extensive user trials JSP engineered out restrictive waist mounted units and hoses which resulted in an easy to operate lightweight head mounted unit.
