The bodies that are promoting improvements to working conditions in Albania, Serbia, Macedonia, Bulgaria and Montenegro have all pledged their support to the No Time to Lose campaign, which is being run by the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH).
Frosina Gjino, executive director of the Albanian Occupational Safety and Health Center (AOSHC), said that the organisation believes that raising awareness of the risk of exposure to carcinogens at work will save lives all over the world.
She said: "The AOSHC is happy to support the IOSH No Time to Lose campaign. I believe that by working together to address this issue, we will contribute to reducing the problem. Let's work together for a better world."
In making its pledge to No Time to Lose, the Serbian Association for Occupational Health and Safety stated its strong support for the campaign.
Association president, Dragoslav Tomovic, said: "We are committed to supporting initiatives that enhance tracking or surveillance of exposures and related health effects.
"The key concept is to increase knowledge, improve workers health, and reduce further exposures."
The Safety at Work Association of Montenegro has described occupational cancer as "one of the deadliest occupational health issues" in the professional world.
Its president, Zdenko Jankovic, added: "It [occupational cancer] has taken a significant number of lives and many are exposed to carcinogens that cause it -- which is a sign that rapid actions are needed in order to prevent it.
"We believe that by supporting IOSH's No Time to Lose campaign and joining other organisations in this battle against our mutual enemy, the number of people suffering from this disease will be reduced."
Milan Petkovski, president of the Macedonian Occupational Safety and Health Association (MOSHA), called on OSH professionals to "find strength, and take action" to prevent people from being exposed to carcinogens while at work.
He said: "It is our professional duty to act in a manner to protect employees from carcinogens.
"Our actions must drive us to excel in our professional development through best practice and modern science. Every life matters, and we must do everything we can to protect and save lives."
The Foundation Center for Safety and Health at Work (FCBZR), based in Bulgaria, has also pledged its formal support.
Its manager, Ljupcho Kochovski, said: "We strongly believe that by showing respect and commitment to the cause and spreading the message across Bulgarian enterprises, this great initiative will definitely make a difference."
Nearly 150 organisations across the world have signed up in support of the No Time to Lose campaign, with more than 80 having pledged to take direct action to prevent carcinogen exposures in their workplaces.
