According to the job specification, the postholder will lead several profitable opportunities – international, shared research, data analytics, digital offerings – for the HSE and turn them into “commercial offerings delivering more than £1m pa each”.
The holder of the £100,000-a-year post will be responsible for growing commercial contracts from £4.5m pa to £15m pa by 2020 by also identifying and developing new commercial contracts.
Those applying for the role must demonstrate a proven track record of leading business development to grow organisations in a science/engineering setting. An understanding of health and safety markets is not essential, the HSE said.
The postholder will report directly to the HSE science and commercial director, Karen Russ, and will be a member of the HSE science and commercial leadership team.
The executive was recommended to increase its commercial activity by Martin Temple, then chair of the manufacturers’ body EEF in his review of the executive’s functions and efficiency in 2014. Temple was appointed HSE chair earlier this year.
