DuPont Tyvek 500 HV limited use coverall provides superior protection while reducing costs
The DuPont™ Tyvek® 500 HV limited use coverall has added GO/RT3279 certification to its list of achievements, confirming that its high visibility properties can be used to protect workers on UK railway applications as well as in other hazardous sectors like mining and tunnelling, waste management, construction, ports and airports.
Tyvek® 500 HV limited use coveralls combine high visibility with chemical, biological & antistatic protection in a single garment. Providing proven protection, durability and comfort, Tyvek® 500 HV has been developed specifically for those working in dangerous or dark environments and poor weather conditions. Its bright fluorescent orange colour combined with silver grey reflective bands makes the wearer highly visible at any time of day or night. This combination of materials performance with the highest standards of visibility makes the Tyvek® 500 HV a major innovation in the field of disposable protective apparel.
In addition to providing superior protection and visibility, Tyvek® 500 HV limited use coveralls deliver benefits by helping to reduce the monitoring, administration and costs associated with servicing reusable high vis garments. High vis clothing is a fundamental component of Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) in many industrial sectors, but regular laundering inevitably leads to degradation in the effectiveness of the fluorescent and reflective quality of the garments. Reusable high vis clothing therefore needs to be checked after every five washes to ensure it is up to standard. Such a monitoring regime across a large, mobile and fluctuating workforce is enormously complex and requires significant investment – all of which can be avoided by using Tyvek® 500 HV limited use garments.
Requiring no washing or monitoring, Tyvek® 500 HV limited use garments can be used to replace reusable clothing altogether. For end-users who wish to keep their reusable solution, Tyvek® 500 HV can be used as a first line of defence to protect the reusable item worn underneath. The high-visibility function then only needs to be gained from Tyvek® 500 HV, which again doesn’t need to be monitored.
The proven Tyvek® material from which the limited use coverall is made is marking its 50th anniversary in 2017, and has played a considerable role in protecting people throughout the world: examples include providing protection for healthcare staff in West Africa dealing with the Ebola virus and for those involved in the emergency clean-up operation following the tsunami in Japan, including the Fukushima nuclear power station. Tyvek’s® combination of exceptional properties – chemical barrier, durability and breathability – mean it continues to provide the best response to today’s protective workwear requirements when incorporated into garments such as the Tyvek® 500 HV.
In addition to GO/RT 3279 Issue 8 certification, Tyvek® 500 HV limited use coveralls are accredited to EN ISO 20471 (High Visibility Clothing, Class 3), EN 14126 (barrier to infective agents) and EN 1073-2 (protection against radioactive contamination) and. They are classified as chemical protective clothing Category III, Type 5-B and 6-B and the coverall’s internal antistatic treatment conforms to EN 1149-5.
