FPA will host a topical one day seminar on Monday 11 December, 10:00-16:00 at the Fire Service College in Moreton-in-Marsh, with the aim to provide guidance on the management of fire risk within commercial kitchens, and to outline the obligations of the responsible persons under current legislation. Topics to be covered will include legislation and guidance, case studies, common problems, approaches to cleaning and safety and more.
Guidance will be covered on common hazards such as: damaged fire doors, inaccessible extinguishers, covered detectors, human error, poor standards of housekeeping and lack of suitable staff training. In turn, main components of commercial ductwork systems and the importance of regular cleaning in helping to prevent fire spread will be discussed.
Further areas covered will include automatic suppression systems and the role they can play, as well as emerging technologies in managing fire risk in extract ductwork systems. The seminar is aimed at a wide range of job roles, including: kitchen staff; fire risk assessors; facilities managers; maintenance managers; caretakers; health and safety managers; fire officers; hospitality staff; and catering contractors.
It is hoped the outcomes will include a clear understanding of the legislative requirements, as well as the identification of common causes of fire. Others include a deeper understanding of how fire can spread and how this can be limited; a review of advice and guidance for cleanliness of kitchen extract ductwork; an overview of new technologies; the guidance documents that are available; and best practice scenarios. Attendees will receive an FPA Certificate of Attendance.
