Nominations are open for the 2016 West of Scotland Branch Certificate of Merit Awards.

The branch is looking for members of the institution to put forward non-OSH professionals within their organisation who have made a valuable contribution to safety and/or health.

The awards will be handed out at a ceremony and annual dinner at Hampden Park Stadium, Glasgow, on Thursday 28 April.

Fraser Allan, executive member of the branch, is helping to coordinate the awards, which were first handed out in the early 1990s. He is encouraging IOSH members to put forward people from their own business.

He said: “These awards seek to recognise those people who have gone above and beyond the call of duty to support and help the health and safety professionals in their business.

“The OSH professionals are those who put in place management systems within their organisations but these awards are about the people who make it happen, at every level of a business.

“We are looking for members to put these people forward. We generally give out up to 20 awards each year. It is a great way to recognise the efforts that are made to ensure businesses in our area are safe and healthy places to work.”

The annual dinner will begin at 6.45pm and awards will be presented by IOSH past president, Nattasha Freeman. The evening will also feature a talk by popular after-dinner speaker Sandy Strang.

Nominations must be received by Friday 11 March and can be for individual people or for groups of up to ten. For a nomination form or to register to attend the event, contact Louise Griffin, IOSH events assistant coordinator at louise.griffin@iosh.co.uk or 0116 257 3373.
