SoloProtect launches new Wi-Fi Calling feature to protect workers in low signal areas

SoloProtect is delighted to be the first lone worker safety provider to offer Wi-Fi Calling as a device feature, making personal safety solutions accessible to those in areas or buildings with a poor 2G, 3G or 4G connection.

Wi-Fi Calling allows SoloProtect’s new touchscreen safety devices to call the Monitoring Centre via a Wi-Fi network (rather than cellular) in the event of a Red Alert, Incapacitation Alert, or Ready2Talk situation.

John Feather, Vice President of Operations at SoloProtect, said:

“Many organisations are eager to provide their colleagues with personal safety solutions to reduce risk and improve their Employee Value Proposition, as well as reaping the operational and financial benefits. But for those who work in areas with a poor 2G, 3G or 4G connection, a personal safety solution can feel out of reach. Therefore, for these organisations, our new Wi-Fi Calling feature is a complete game-changer – ensuring workers can access safety support wherever they’re located.”

Cellular connectivity can be particularly poor for people who work in underground locations (e.g. mines, underground storage facilities, or underground trains); buildings made of metal or types of reflective glass (e.g. garages, warehouses, and even some high-rise offices); buildings located within mountainous or hilly areas; coastal regions or areas high above sea level that may be exposed to poor weather conditions; or remote or rural locations where cellular mast infrastructure is still developing.

John comments:

“Anyone who uses Wi-Fi Calling on their mobile phone will understand the innate benefits of this as a feature. Voice quality can be improved, connectivity can be better in bad weather conditions, and the device can be used in an area with little or no cellular connectivity. Users of SoloProtect’s touchscreen safety devices will benefit from all of this, however, importantly, it also provides reassurance that they have a reliable connection and can easily call for help if needed.”

The new Wi-Fi Calling feature is easily managed by customers via the SoloProtect Insights platform, with no requirement for device users to amend settings on their device. Once a network has been added to the system, devices will automatically connect when they’re in range. Furthermore, the details of multiple Wi-Fi networks can be added, making it an ideal solution for multi-site organisations.

John concludes:

“We’re passionate about providing lone worker safety solutions that are suitable for all workers, irrespective of their job type or location. Therefore, closing this connectivity gap is a vital step towards achieving this.”
