Sellafield was charged with an offence under the Health and Safety at Work Act after an Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) investigation found an employee was subjected to "personal contamination".
The incident happened on 5 February 2017 at a facility that handles special nuclear materials.
The UK's nuclear safety regulator said: "Sellafield has formally confirmed to ONR and to Carlisle Crown Court that they intend to plead guilty to an offence under s 2(1) of the Health and Safety at Work Act.
"This matter remains subject to active court proceedings so ONR cannot comment any further at this stage for legal reasons."
The hearing has been scheduled for 2 April.
